Boyfriend Tricked Into Watching Latest Star Wars Movie

LIVING ROOM — Fran Miller (26) and Michael Thomas (25) have been cohabitating for nearly two years now. The young couple have greatly enjoyed their time together. Whether they’re off hiking in the woods, or trying out a new recipe, the two say they’ve never been closer. Their only problem is movie night. The two have drastically differing taste in movies. So every Tuesday they spend hours trying to find a middle ground.
“He says he’ll watch anything, and then I’ll put something on and he’ll totally zone out” Said Fran. “It’s been really frustrating so now we try and find something we’re both really interested in, and in the end he was really invested in my pick. So who cares if I had to bend the truth a little.”
This last Tuesday Fran floated the idea of watching the latest installment in the Star Wars film franchise. A franchise Michael has adored ever since he was a boy.
“I was a little confused,” said Michael. “I couldn’t believe an entire Star Wars movie had been released and put to streaming without my knowledge. But I was pretty excited nonetheless, and it did not disappoint. I always thought there was some chemistry between Rey and Kylo, though admittedly I did not envision that much literal chemistry in a series usually about light sabers.
The film Fran had picked, The Love Hypothesis, was originally published as Rey/Lo Fanfic. Before eventually being adapted into a book about scientists, and now a film. Fran figured that enough similarities would be carried over from the source material that Michael wouldn’t notice, and she was absolutely right. Michael was fully convinced The Love Hypothesis was the official thirteenth installment in the Star Wars franchise.
“I genuinely really enjoyed it,” said Michael. “I thought it was a bold new direction for the universe and I was excited to see what was to come. So imagine my disappointment when I try to tell the guys at work about it.”
After seeing his five star review on Letterboxd, Michael's friends had some understandable questions. But when he asked for their opinions on the latest Stars Wars film. Michael received a cruel awakening.
“SHE LIED TO ME! IT WASN’T CANNON! Now I have to lie awake at night, knowing the greatest film in the franchise is never going to be a real part of it. I was an absolute laughing stock at work, but the worst part is knowing that the world isn’t nearly as magical as I once thought it was.”
At press time, Michael has started rewatching the prequels and has cheered himself up a bit. After seeing the distress her ruse caused him, Fran has sworn off fan fiction entirely. Excepting any and all content related to Harry Potter.
