HAROLD WASHINGTON LIBRARY — Valentines Day can be a stressful time of year. For many a day of great expectation and shattering disappointment. But regardless of how meager your own holiday has turned out, local boyfriend Justin Daily totally nailed it this year.

“I love my girlfriend Maggie, we’ve been seeing each other for a while and I knew that this year I just had to do something special. That’s why I woke up super early the day before and started planning for Valentines.”

But Justin, like many boyfriends, found the expectations surrounding the holiday nearly impossible to meet.

“I thought Maggie would love a rug tufting workshop, but that didn’t seem quite right. Also they were booked. Then I thought maybe a nice restaurant with some live music, but I knew she would want something a little more intimate. Also they were booked. Then it hit me, the perfect place. I looked online and I couldn't believe they had an open table.”

Maggie had been questioning Justin about the evening's plans for a number of days. Despite Justin's assurance that this year he nailed it, Maggie had some doubts given years prior.

“Last year we had a picnic in the park which was nice but I had expressed that I wanted to dress up and go out. I will admit I was a bit skeptical this year when he told me the reservation was for 3pm because the place closes at 5. But Justin just kept saying “babe I nailed it I nailed it” Then he would mime hammering a nail, and after two or three nails he’d mime hitting his thumb and hopping around in pain and then look over at me to see if I was laughing.”

Despite her concerns Maggie’s hopes were high when Justin picked her up, and only increased as they drove to the South Loop. Knowing the concentration of high end bars and restaurants downtown Maggie was starting to believe that Justin may have pulled it off.

“We were driving down State Street and passing all these fabulous shops and restaurants. Then Justin says “we’re here!” I look up and we’re at THE LIBRARY! I really couldn’t believe it. I have no idea how he was able to get a table but he did. He reserved us a private room for TWO WHOLE HOURS. I was so excited I couldn’t contain myself. I was jumping up and down and kissing my baby on the cheek. He absolutely crushed it, I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.”

At press time, Maggie and Justin are ravenously making love on the study room table, while our correspondent watches from between the shelves. We here at Associated Jest hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day. Whether you’re enjoying thoughtful plans arranged by your partner, or spending the day here with us seeing if Justin can last the full two hours.
