LOS ANGELES — Documentary fans and scorned people everywhere are talking about the release of Netflix's upcoming documentary Fucked Up: Finding Out Why You Just Said That.
Despite the documentary still not being slated for release until later this year, it already promises to be one of the most controversial pieces of its kind, as told by Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria.
"We just knew that this story needed to be told." said Bajaria. "Because, frankly, what you just said was absolutely unacceptable, and we need to understand why. That's why we brought on award-winning documentarians to really dig deeper and find out: Why, on God's green earth, would you even say that?"
The show was spear-headed by documentarians Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan, creators of Reality Check: Inside America's Top Model, who claim that they were all too eager for the task.
"We were beyond elated to be selected for this project," said Loushy. "And we knew immediately they made the right choice. As experienced documentary directors, we know exactly how to attack a story like this. And we are not afraid to ask the tough, necessary questions like "What is actually wrong with you?" and "What could have possibly possessed you to even say that?"
The documentary reportedly centers around local man Jason Plaskett, who made the mistake of suggesting his girlfriend wear a nicer outfit for their date night out.
"At first, I really didn't think it was that big of a deal." said Plaskett, 29. "We were going out to dinner, she was wearing a cute sweater and some jeans, and I just said 'hey, maybe we could dress a little more formal tonight, you could put on a nice dress.' I was trying to keep it a surprise at the time, but I was actually planning to propose, and I knew she'd want to be looking her best, so I didn't think anything of it. But once they made that documentary, and I was able to see that footage cut together and see the effect my words had had, I knew: What I said was pretty Fucked Up.
At press time, Netflix has already tapped Loushy and Sivan to direct another upcoming docu-series for the streamer, this time exploring the hidden implications behind a seemingly innocuous text.
