Job Interview Derailed by Wobbly Table

PLANO, Texas — Local man Travis Carlisle’s dreams of gainful employment were firmly and summarily crushed last week, after Carlisle’s promising interview at Frito-Lay was driven completely off the rails by a table that would not stop wobbling.

“It was brutal, it really was.” said Carlisle, recounting the grisly incident. “The damn table started wobbling as soon as I walked in. We tried to ignore it at first, I made some stupid joke and tried to play it off. But as the interview went on and we dove deeper into my experience and background, it just wouldn’t stop. I can still hear the table legs squeaking now. I’ll probably hear that sound until the day I die.”

It would seem the wobbly table may not have been unintentional, however, as current employees of Frito-Lay later told reporters.

“The wobbly table? That’s the first real test.” said Marie Gendry, who’s worked as a Data Analyst at the company for 6 years. “That thing’s been wobbling for decades, that’s why they do the interviews in there. That table is so damn annoying, it can drive a person truly mad. That’s how they separate the week from the strong. It’s a right of passage, a trial of will.”

Reporters also reached out to the hiring manager who interviewed Carlisle, who was eager to share his feedback for the young man.

“I really did have high hopes for Travis,” clarified Director of Talent Derrick Hensen. “I didn’t think he’d be broken so easily. But some folks just can’t take the wobbly table. We require a level of dedication and focus here at Frito-Lay that some may consider ‘extreme.’ Nonetheless, we must do all we can to ensure that the people we hire are those with nerves of steel, able to conquer any obstacle or annoyance thrown their way. I did not see that in Travis, but I do wish Mr. Carlisle the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

At press time, Travis Carlisle continues to have night terrors about that damn table.
