EMERYVILLE, Calif. — Audiences worldwide were left horrified after the theatrical premiere of Toy Story 5 Thursday night. According to eyewitnesses, the long-awaited fifth installment of Pixar’s flagship franchise includes several ‘bizarre’ and ‘unexpected’ scenes, including one 3-minute segment that shows viewers the exact moment Bonnie first saw the video of Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

“What are some of those core ‘canon moments’ that everyone with a mobile device can relate to?’” posited Toy Story 5’s writer and director Andrew Stanton. “That’s the question we kept coming back to while developing Five. The centerpiece of this movie is a crucial turning-point in Bonnie’s life that we’ve all experienced: That first time we were handed a device with an internet connection. It’s a time of wonder, of fear, of chaos and beauty and love and hatred and life, and we wanted to make that feel authentic as possible. And everyone who’s alive right now and has a mobile device has seen the Charlie Kirk video. That’s universal and it’s something we all share. We hope that’s what people get out of all of this.”

Many parents were understandably enraged by the creative choice, with some even describing how they might’ve done things differently.

“I get what they were trying to do, I really do.” said local mom Peggy Warren, who took her 9- and 10-year-old sons to the film’s premiere. “Like yeah, we’ve all seen the Charlie Kirk video. And anyone who hasn’t is either a liar, or someone who’s about to see the Charlie Kirk video. It’s inevitable. I just think the audience for Toy Story is maybe a smidge too young to be seeing that. My husband Brian and I have actually had a lot of really deep, really tough conversations about when is the right time to show Bradley and Nero the Charlie Kirk video. I had always thought maybe 16, 17. But Brian really convinced me that with the right upbringing and the necessary emotional tools, a 14-year-old actually can be ready to see the Charlie Kirk video. And Toy Story fans tend to skew a lot younger than that, so I just don’t think they were ready.”

Those who may dismiss this as a fluke or one-time mistake on Pixar’s part may be sorely disappointed as Pixar’s current plans include further exploring this new direction, as Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter told reporters.

“We wanna get dark, real.” explained Docter in a press conference Friday morning. “We put a little morbid mortality in Coco and people ate that shit up. So fuck it, we’re going HAM. Toy Story 5 gets the Charlie Kirk Scene, Cars 4 will have a scene where a drunk driver collides with and kills Tow Mater. That’s the way it’s going to be now.”

At press time, people on the internet are calling Bonnie slurs she can’t even spell.
